Prof S. Sendhil Velan Head, Metabolic Imaging Group & Senior Principal Investigator, Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS), A*STAR |
Biography A/Prof. Sendhil Velan is the Head of the Metabolic Imaging Group, and a Senior Principal Investigator at Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences, A*STAR. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of medicine, in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and NUS graduate school for integrative sciences and engineering of National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr.Velan and his team are imaging metabolism to undertand the evolution of the metabolic disease in Asian population. His team utilizes cutting edge multi-modal imaging technology for life-course imaging. He is also the Co-President for the Singapore Chapter of International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). Talk Description Our lab is focused on utilization and implementation of advanced imaging techniques suitable for investigating body composition in metabolic diseases. The study of body fat distribution and ectopic fat accumulation in liver and skeletal muscle is important to understand the pathophysiology of obesity related disorders, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases. In this talk I will highlight some of our ongoing effort in metabolic imaging and update future directions with mitochondrial metabolism which has the potential to change the clinical paradigm for patients with metabolic disorders. |
